What this directory is

Malacca Homestay Guide is an independent directory and comparison resource covering 475 homestay businesses across Malacca. It exists for travelers trying to work out which homestay is actually worth booking, without wading through scattered listings and mixed-quality reviews themselves. We also generate enquiries for local providers: when you ask to be matched with a place to stay, we pass your enquiry to a provider relevant to your request and may receive a referral fee for doing so. That arrangement is disclosed on the quote page, and it never touches scores or earned rankings. Those two functions, the directory and the enquiry matching, are kept deliberately separate so one never quietly bends the other.

Where the listing data comes from

Every entry starts from public business information: names, addresses, contact details, amenities, and similar facts. Alongside that, we synthesise patterns from recent Google reviews to understand how a homestay is actually performing on things like cleanliness, responsiveness, and accuracy of listing photos. We do not republish review text. If you want to read the original comments, we link out to Google so you can see them in full and in context.

How rankings are earned

Rankings come from a published rubric applied consistently to the data we collect, nothing more. There’s no pay-to-rank option and no manual override for a business that wants a better position. The full scoring breakdown, including what’s weighted and why, is laid out on our /methodology/ page, so anyone can check our working rather than take our word for it.

Sponsorship, when it appears

Some pages carry sponsored placements. These are always labelled “Sponsored,” displayed in a separate section from the earned ranking, and they do not move, boost, or otherwise alter a business’s actual score or position. A business can pay to be seen more prominently, but it cannot pay to be ranked higher.

Corrections and control

Any listed homestay can flag or correct its own factual details, things like opening hours, contact numbers, or amenities. What a business cannot do is edit its own score, the sentiment behind it, or its ranking. Those stay tied to the data and the rubric, not to the preferences of the business being listed.

Who’s behind it

This directory is published by Meridian Guides, which builds independent city directories for everyday services across Malaysia, starting with Malacca in 2025. Rankings are never for sale, sponsored slots are always marked as such, and no payment changes a score. Editorial oversight of the Malacca rankings sits with Janice, Editor, who maintains the rubric and the monthly review cycle. Staying current

Listings are refreshed monthly, and each one carries a “last verified” stamp so you can see exactly when it was last checked rather than assuming it’s current.
